Generator Safety Tips
Generators are useful when temporary or remote electric power is needed. But consumers should know that hazards/damaged may be caused if used improperly. Below are the guidelines for safer operations. 1¡¢Always observe the generator manufacturer's instructions for safe operation.
¡¢Never use a generator indoors or in an attached garage. Always run your generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
¡¢Maintain your generator engine according to the maintenance schedule for peak performance and safety.
¡¢Do not store fuel indoors or try to refuel a generator while it's running.
¡¢Severe weather patterns can increase the maintenance requirements, i.e., excessive dust, heat, moisture.
¡¢Turn off all equipment powered by the generator before shutting down your generator.
¡¢Do not operate the engine near combustible materials.
¡¢Keep gas fresh. If you do not plan to use your generator for up to 30 days, stabilize the gas with a gas stabilizer.
¡¢Place generator on level ground to operate.
¡¢When using extension cords, be sure they are grounded, and are a sufficient wire gauge for the application. Heavy Duty outdoor rated cords will handle household appliance loads.
¡¢Never plug your generator directly into your house circuit.
¡¢Keep children away from portable electric generators at all times.
